SLEEPY SPACES
Through the artistic residency at SÍM, Korpúlfsstaðir, Iceland, inspired by the atmosphere, the liquid and volcanic colors, the sun that never sets, its living presence remaining discontinuously awake, the installation Sleepy Spaces was born. (2022.05)
Synopsis:
Based on the question of memory, that of man, but also of nature, I develop an imaginary and transcendental image of the body, between absence and presence in space (the landscape). This half-body is in search of its past. The spirit of this same body manages to perceive its trace, its past, the forgotten memory only in dreams.
Also, the act of superimposing images thanks to photographic or video editing, represents this imaginary will, of encounter between the self and nature.
The shooting and staging of these images were made in 2022, in Iceland, during a residency, where in May the Sun never sets, and sometimes our bodies, like nature, remain in a stage of a certain strangeness and drowsiness. It allowed me to explore the nuances between different terrains and the fragility of nature and our presence in it. So in my work is this research on identity and space, our possibility of transporting ourselves beyond geographical and temporary borders (cultural/social/economic). I’m looking for something that superimposes different worlds, that allows us to travel or dream, to free ourselves from stasis or the system.
the residency was possible thanks to the program: Polish culture worldwide by The Adam Mickiewicz Institute
